Want a simple way to help your child build a new habit without nagging? This free printable reward chart for kids has a bright rainbow and sunshine design, six "I will..." lines and a heart to color in for each day of the week. Your child colors a heart every time they do it, and earns the reward you agreed on together.

It's one page in US Letter and A4, and you can type in the name, tasks and reward before printing or write them in by hand.

How to use a reward chart

  • Pick one to three goals. Start small, like "brush my teeth," "put my toys away" or "get dressed by myself." Too many lines at once can feel like a test.
  • Say it the positive way. Write what you want to see ("use kind words") rather than what to stop ("no shouting"), so your child knows exactly what earns a heart.
  • Color the heart right away. Let your child color it as soon as they've done it, and add a quick "you did it!" The praise matters as much as the heart.
  • Agree on the reward first. Fill in "When I earn ___ hearts, I get" together. Small, quick rewards work best for little ones, like picking the bedtime story, a trip to the park or extra playtime.
  • Never take hearts away. A heart that's earned stays earned. Missed days simply stay blank.
  • Start fresh each week. Print a new chart on Monday. Once a habit sticks, swap it for a new goal and slowly phase the chart out.

Printing tips

  • Print at 100% / actual size in landscape. Choose the US Letter file for US printers and A4 everywhere else.
  • To fill it in on screen, open the PDF in a free reader like Adobe Acrobat Reader, type the name, tasks and reward, then print.
  • Slip the page into a plastic sleeve and use a dry-erase marker to reuse it week after week.
  • Stick it on the fridge or the back of a bedroom door, at your child's eye level.
